Mastercard highlights bullish trend as credit-card penetration remains steady
The stock has rebounded sharply since June lows and Cramer cited a potential path toward its prior January highs if key technical resistance near $573 is cleared.
Yahoo Finance, summarizing a CNBC Mad Money segment, said Jim Cramer reviewed Mastercard Incorporated in the context of an asset-light payments model and its role as a major credit card network alongside Visa and American Express.
Cramer pointed to Mastercard’s market position, saying roughly 25% to 30% of cardholders have the Mastercard brand, while Visa is at about 60% and American Express at about 10% of purchase volume, with Mastercard positioned in the middle of that reach.
Using options trader Bob Lang’s technical read of the daily chart, Cramer described a bullish trend channel since a June bottom, with higher highs and higher lows. He also cited signals including a MACD buy trigger last month, a relative strength index trending up without reaching overbought territory, and higher volume with a rising on-balance volume line.
Cramer added that Lang sees primary technical resistance near $573, which would correspond to about $35 of potential upside toward the stock’s level before an earlier January gap down, giving Mastercard a path to test its January highs.
