Japan June inflation rises, lifting headline to 1.7% y/y

Japan’s core inflation (ex-food) also increased to 1.6% y/y in June, matching expectations.

Japan’s inflation rate in June 2026 moved higher, with headline inflation rising to 1.7% year over year, according to data highlighted by Forexlive.

The same update showed core inflation excluding food up to 1.6% y/y, also in line with the forecast.

A separate measure excluding food and energy, described as core-core, rose more slowly to 1.7% y/y, noted as the slowest increase since August 2022.

Forexlive said the ex-food and energy figure was expected to come in at 2.0%, compared with a prior reading of 1.8%.
