AI job losses have not risen for highly exposed workers, analysis says
The report argues deployment is still limited versus what is feasible, with Claude covering 33% of computer and math tasks.
In March, Anthropic, the company behind the Claude chatbot, published an analysis on AI’s impact on employment that challenges claims AI would soon eliminate large numbers of jobs, according to the Guardian Business.
The analysis said it found no systematic increase in unemployment for highly exposed workers since late 2022. It also concluded that current deployments remain a fraction of what is feasible.
The article notes earlier statements from Anthropic co-founder Dario Amodei that AI could wipe out half of entry-level jobs within one to five years and become a general labor substitute, but it argues the evidence so far has not matched those warnings.
The Guardian Business also points to a broader market context, saying the Nasdaq index has fallen about 8% since its early June peak, as the narrative shifts from an “AI-will-do-everything” storyline to one emphasizing slower-than-expected change.
