Study finds 54% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck
Gallup research for April shows 55% of Americans say their finances are getting worse, a five year stretch described as the worst since the Great Recession.
Yahoo Finance, citing Gallup research from April, reported that 55% of Americans say their financial situation is getting worse, marking the fifth consecutive year people report worsening finances, the outlet said is the worst period since the Great Recession.
The same report cited a Ramsey Solutions study estimating that 54% of American adults in 2026 are living paycheck to paycheck, up from 42% four years earlier.
It also noted that younger cohorts are more likely to be in that situation, with 63% of millennials and 61% of Gen Z saying they live paycheck to paycheck.
Defining the condition, the article said MetLife describes it as having little to no money left for savings after paying bills and essential expenses, meaning there is minimal financial flexibility if income stops suddenly.
