Public Claude chat links briefly appeared in Google search results

Anthropic said users control whether conversations are shared, while search engines removed the discoverability over the weekend after the logs were found widely online.

BBC Business reports that hundreds of Claude chatbot conversations from Anthropic were discoverable through Google-style searches, including links that could expose personal and work information.

According to the report, links to shared chat logs had been saved by search engines after users enabled the share option, leaving the conversation pages accessible to the broader public via site-specific queries. The links were removed from search availability over the weekend, but many copies were already saved and reshared online.

The outlet also notes that Anthropic told BBC Business that Claude users maintain control over if and when to share conversations, and that links are not guessable or discoverable unless users choose to share them.

BBC Business adds that early discovery on Reddit pointed to more than 200 conversations across at least 25 pages of results, with some chats involving topics ranging from resume help to drafting a blog post with cloud security details, and other requests that included personally identifying information.
