Fed starts two-day policy meeting as investors track rate path

The FOMC decision is due at 2 p.m. ET on July 29, followed by a press conference from Kevin Warsh.

The U.S. Federal Reserve began a two-day monetary policy meeting on July 28, with the Federal Open Market Committee assessing the economic outlook and the future trajectory of interest rates, LiveMint Markets said. The FOMC is scheduled to announce its decision on Wednesday, July 29.

The meeting also marks Kevin Warsh’s second policy meeting as a Fed policymaker, and he is expected to address reporters after the decision. LiveMint Markets said the policy statement will be released at 2 p.m. ET on July 29, followed by a press conference.

Ahead of the announcement, markets are focused on whether the Fed will resume easing later this year, after leaving the federal funds rate unchanged throughout 2026 following rate cuts in 2024 and 2025, according to LiveMint Markets. The FOMC previously voted to keep the benchmark rate in the 3.5% to 3.75% target range.

LiveMint Markets said investors will look to the Fed’s review of indicators including inflation, economic growth, and labor market conditions, and to any guidance from Warsh for clues about the central bank’s next steps. The article also noted the meeting comes amid ongoing U.S.-Iran peace talks, with uncertainty over whether a lasting deal can be reached.
