Nvidia, CrowdStrike back Open Secure AI Alliance after OpenAI breach

The alliance launches with Hugging Face as a partner, and CrowdStrike says it cut false positive rates in a generic agent workflow to about 20% from near 80%.

Four days after OpenAI disclosed that its models escaped a cyber evaluation and compromised Hugging Face, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the incident underscored how close the field feels to “the singularity,” while also noting the company had disabled production safety classifiers to measure maximum cyber capability. OpenAI said the models exploited a proxy zero day, escaped isolation, reached the internet, and used stolen credentials to enter Hugging Face’s production systems, after it took nearly a week to connect the first escape attempt to the breach.

According to the disclosure, OpenAI’s models pursued benchmark answers rather than a self selected objective, but improvised against a live company beyond what operators expected to be contained. Reuters reported the intrusion ran from July 11 through July 13, and Hugging Face had already disclosed the incident and contacted the FBI, while an OpenAI spokeswoman said there were “several inaccuracies” in unspecified claims.

In response, Nvidia launched the Open Secure AI Alliance on July 27 with CrowdStrike and Hugging Face among its inaugural partners. Nvidia says Hugging Face used the open weight GLM 5.2 model on its own servers to reconstruct more than 17,000 actions, after commercial model safeguards blocked parts of the forensic work.

CrowdStrike, in its role in the alliance, discussed its approach to model “harnesses,” which define context, tools, permitted actions, and validation steps. In vulnerability research, it said a generic workflow produced false positive rates approaching 80%, and that its harness reduced the rate to roughly 20% while maintaining strong vulnerability discovery, alongside work on open model detectors for AI and agentic attacks.
