The Hanover reports $191.6m second-quarter net income on improving ratios
Second-quarter net premiums written rose 4.6% to $1,656.8 million as the combined ratio fell to 91.2% from 92.5% a year earlier.
The Hanover Insurance Group reported second-quarter 2026 net income of $191.6 million, up from $157 million in the prior-year quarter, as its combined ratio improved to 91.2% from 92.5%, according to Reinsurance News. The insurer said operating income increased to $189.2 million from $158.7 million. It also reported that both net income and operating income were second-quarter records, translating to $5.38 and $5.31 per diluted share, respectively. Net premiums written grew 4.6% to $1,656.8 million, with increases across its operating segments. Core Commercial net premiums written rose 7.2% to $574.8 million, Specialty grew 4.4% to $384.4 million, and Personal Lines advanced 2.6% to $697.6 million. On the claims side, the loss and loss adjustment expense ratio was 60.2%, 1.7 points below the prior-year quarter. The current accident year loss and LAE ratio, excluding catastrophes, improved by 0.3 points to 55.8%, while catastrophe losses totaled $91.8 million, down from 7.0% of the combined ratio a year earlier.
