Jamie Dimon credits childhood stock game with shaping his investing mindset

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said his father, a stockbroker, gave him annual reports as a child and had him play an investing game that aimed to teach stock valuation through industry study and historical context, according to an interview on The Master Investor Podcast with Wilfred Frost, as carried by Yahoo Finance.

Dimon described the exercise as “brutally hard,” saying it forced him to challenge assumptions about prices versus earnings, including moments when he might think a stock should trade at a higher multiple than the market implied.

He added that the approach was not forced on his siblings, and that by age 14 he had traded his first stock.

Dimon also said the broader lesson from his parents was to pursue work with purpose, which he described as strict guidance that could apply beyond finance, even though the early exposure to stocks helped steer his interest in the field.
