Visa to buy BioCatch in $2.4 billion all-cash deal

The acquisition is aimed at expanding Visa’s Value-Added Services by adding behavioral biometrics that can flag fraud in real time before transactions reach the payment network.

Visa plans to acquire behavioral-first fraud intelligence provider BioCatch in a $2.4 billion all-cash transaction, strengthening its Value-Added Services business, according to MarketBeat Ratings.

The deal comes as digital fraud evolves toward AI-enabled account takeovers and synthetic identity fraud, and Visa says traditional security approaches are increasingly unable to keep up.

BioCatch uses behavioral biometrics to analyze thousands of anonymized data points during digital banking sessions, monitoring factors such as keystroke dynamics, mouse movements, touchscreen pressure, and device orientation to help distinguish legitimate users from fraudulent AI agents.

Visa expects integrating BioCatch into its infrastructure to move its model toward more preemptive, network security capabilities for its banking partners, as pressures on transaction-based revenue grow.
