CSX posts record quarterly revenue on stronger intermodal demand

Intermodal volume rose 9.0% year over year to 792,000 units, helping lift second-quarter EPS 23.0% to $0.54.

CSX Corp. reported better-than-expected results for the second quarter of 2026, attributing the performance to strong intermodal demand, steady pricing, and more containers moving by rail rather than truck, according to Yahoo Finance.

The company reached record revenue of $3.94 billion. Intermodal volume increased 9.0% year over year to 792,000 units, supported by domestic customer wins, new services, infrastructure investments, and tightening trucking capacity.

CSX also saw earnings and profitability gains, with earnings per share rising 23.0% to $0.54 and operating income increasing 17.0% to $1.51 billion. The outlet added that carload volumes climbed 4.0% year over year, supported by demand for construction materials, metals, chemicals, and cars.

Management reiterated a focus on network efficiency and lowering operating costs, and it projects 5.0% to 9.0% revenue growth in 2026. The company also expects free cash flow to grow by 80.0%, which could support dividends, share repurchases, and capital investments.
