Microsoft shares surge after fiscal Q4 earnings and Azure growth

Microsoft’s fiscal Q4 revenue rose 18% year over year to $90 billion, and Azure revenue climbed 43% in the report that sparked the rally.

Microsoft’s shares have climbed more than 25% since the company reported fiscal fourth-quarter results on July 29, and the stock also turned positive for the year as of Aug. 5, according to MarketBeat Ratings.

The earnings numbers behind the jump included fiscal Q4 revenue of $90 billion, up 18% year over year, with Azure revenue rising 43%. The company also reported that Microsoft 365 Copilot passed 30 million paid seats and that commercial remaining performance obligation, essentially contracted backlog, grew sharply.

MarketBeat Ratings also notes that some investors are weighing whether the week-long rally could be followed by a pullback. The outlet points out that the move is larger and faster than MSFT’s typical post-earnings surges over the past five years, though it adds that the stock is not yet flagged as overbought based on RSI.

Beyond Microsoft’s own results, the outlet cites a positive spillover from other earnings, including Chevron’s July 31 report. Chevron highlighted Project Kilby, a 20-year take-or-pay power agreement with Microsoft covering 2.67 gigawatts of behind-the-meter capacity in West Texas, with Chevron expecting mid-teens returns and targeting a final investment decision later this year.
