Oman-Iran talks progress raises hopes for Hormuz shipping deal

A temporary 60-day route has been discussed, but officials say nothing is final until a public announcement, with the US seeking full navigation freedom without Iranian tolls.

A US official told Reuters that there has been progress in Oman-Iran talks and that a deal could be signed soon, a development that could restore commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The report said the US would lift its blockade once the deal is announced.

Separately, an official speaking to ABC News said a temporary route was discussed, but it would be limited to 60 days. The official cautioned that nothing is final until it is publicly announced.

The material also says the Trump administration wants total freedom of commercial navigation through the strait, without Iranian tolls or any arrangement requiring vessels to obtain Iran approval to transit Hormuz. In market terms, the story notes that changes in risk expectations can shift flows toward or away from safe-haven currencies and assets.
