Hugo spritz nearly triples in UK bars as elderflower trends

Square data shows Campari spritz orders rose 52% and a limoncello spritz variant gained 31%.

The Hugo elderflower spritz is gaining ground in the UK as sales data points to faster growth than long-standing favorites, according to Guardian Business, citing bar receipts and other in-store data.

In the three months to the end of June, the number of Hugos ordered in bars nearly tripled, while sales of the vibrant red Campari spritz surged 52%, and a limoncello spritz variant rose 31%, according to payments company Square.

The growth is also reflected in wider Great Britain bar, cafe, and restaurant till data, which showed a 196% uplift for Hugos versus a year ago over the same period, while Aperol spritz sales climbed 13%.

Guardian Business reports that the trend has been supported by changes in drinking patterns, including the rise of the “daycap” for late-afternoon sipping and strong appeal to Gen Z, ages 18 to 29, where the spritz ranks as the number one cocktail in Bacardi’s annual cocktail trends report.
