Lumen expands AWS modernization with Amdocs as CEO buys shares

The AWS work is expected to speed order management platform assessment, customization and migration planning from months to days.

Lumen Technologies is accelerating its cloud modernization effort, expanding a partnership with Amdocs to move Lumen's enterprise service orchestration platform to Amazon Web Services. The companies said Amdocs will use its aOS agentic operating system to automate the assessment, customization analysis, and migration planning required to shift Lumen's order management platform to AWS.

According to the report, the automation is expected to compress tasks that used to take months into days, as Lumen continues its broader transition toward operating across multiple cloud platforms. The article also notes Lumen has already completed migrations to Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, positioning it for operations across all three major cloud providers once the AWS work is finished.

Lumen also posted financial context for its pivot, citing growth in a new business segment aimed at AI-driven infrastructure demand. That segment grew revenue 14.0% year over year to $1.3 billion in the second quarter, and the article says it now accounts for more than 50.0% of total business revenue for the first time.

Separately, Lumen CEO Kate Johnson bought 100,000 shares of her company on August 6, at a weighted average price of $6.13. The article adds that Johnson already held more than 7.5 million shares directly, while Lumen's legacy operations saw revenue decline 15.0% year over year to $1.2 billion in the same quarter.
