Synopsys unveils agentic AI chip design workflows with Microsoft and AMD
Synopsys says early evaluations showed a 25% to 40% reduction in debug cycle time, as AMD evaluates the tools for next-generation products.
Synopsys (SNPS) unveiled autonomous, agentic AI workflows aimed at speeding the path from chip specifications to working silicon, with the company saying the tools are built with Microsoft and already under evaluation by AMD. The announcement was made July 27 at the DAC Chips to Systems Conference, and it is available for evaluation through Microsoft Discovery.
One workflow targets debug closure, using domain-specific and task-level agents to identify design failures and accelerate validation, and Synopsys reported early evaluations showed a 25% to 40% reduction in debug cycle time. A second workflow automates implementation and closure work on Synopsys' Fusion Compiler on Azure, with early results pointing to improved quality of results, according to the company.
AMD is actively evaluating the workflows for its next-generation products. The news also arrives as investors assess whether Synopsys deserves its valuation premium tied to its position in AI chip design tooling.
The report also notes broader momentum and related financial pressures. Synopsys counts Nvidia as a customer and investor after Nvidia expanded its partnership with a $2 billion investment, while fiscal 2026 second-quarter revenue grew 42% year-over-year and the company raised full-year guidance, despite Synopsys shares being down 12% year-to-date as of July 16. It attributed margin tightness to amortization costs tied to its $35 billion Ansys deal, and it also said stock-based compensation represented roughly 58.8% of operating cash flow in fiscal 2025.
