UK ONS delays new labour market survey process to July 2027
The Bank of England has previously highlighted that flaws in UK labour data make it harder for policymakers to set monetary policy.
Forexlive reports that the UK Office for National Statistics will take additional time before deciding whether it can fully move to a Transformed Labour Force Survey, pushing the key decision point to July 2027.
The ONS said it wants to keep collecting and analysing data through July 2027 to understand the full impact of recent changes on the quality of the statistics, with any transition then targeted for November 2027.
The delay comes amid ongoing issues in the UK labour market data quality, including accuracy and consistency problems linked to a falling response rate in the Labour Force Survey over the past few years, according to Forexlive.
Forexlive also notes that the Bank of England has criticized the ONS over the credibility of the labour data, arguing that weaker data quality can complicate monetary policy decisions.
