Bessent says US economy outpaces peers, cites growth and investment

He links stronger US performance to policy support for investment, pointing to IMF forecasts and a 3.9% annual-rate jump in private domestic sales in Q2.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the economic system launched by the United States' Founding Fathers has grown into an outcome they could not have imagined, and he framed the current US economy as an international benchmark, according to Yahoo Finance.

Bessent also echoed the claim that record investment is flowing into the country, attributing the momentum to Trump administration policies, including support for digital assets and technology, plus efforts aimed at restoring American manufacturing.

The article says some macro data supports the optimism, noting that the International Monetary Fund expects US economic growth of 2.3% in 2026, compared with 0.9% for the euro area, 1.0% for the U.K., and 0.6% for Japan.

It adds that the IMF pointed to ongoing technology-related business investment and productivity strength as drivers, and that real final sales to private domestic purchasers rose at a 3.9% annual rate in the second quarter.
