Rocket Lab shares slip ahead of Q2 earnings after options signal upside
Consensus calls for a $0.07 per share Q2 loss, while Barchart data points to a put-to-call ratio of 0.58 for Aug. 14 contracts.
Rocket Lab shares inched lower ahead of the company’s Q2 earnings release scheduled for today after the market close. Yahoo Finance reports analysts expect Rocket Lab, trading on Nasdaq under RKLB, to report a loss of $0.07 per share for the quarter, a 46.15% improvement versus the year-ago period.
Ahead of the results, the stock is down nearly 50% from its year-to-date high in late May and is trading below its 50-day and 100-day moving averages, suggesting the broader downtrend is still in place. Yahoo Finance also notes that insider activity has been a negative signal, with no “buy” transactions recorded over the trailing 12 months.
Options activity is skewed bullish into the announcement, according to Yahoo Finance and Barchart data. The put-to-call ratio on contracts expiring Aug. 14 is 0.58x, and the upper price on those contracts is just under $90, implying the potential for more than a 10% rally through the end of the week.
Valuation and expectations remain mixed, the outlet said. Yahoo Finance reports Rocket Lab’s price-to-sales multiple has contracted to about 72x, and it is trading at a far higher valuation than rival Firefly Aerospace at just over 24x, while Wall Street’s consensus rating is “Strong Buy” with a mean price target of $113.
