Brevan Howard adds Goldman emerging-markets VP Carlos Licon

Licon joined Brevan Howard as a more senior portfolio manager role after nearly six years at Goldman Sachs, expanding the hedge fund’s emerging-markets macro capabilities.

Brevan Howard has hired Goldman Sachs vice president Carlos Licon to serve as a portfolio manager in New York, adding an emerging-markets macro specialist to its investment team, according to Hedgeweek via eFinancial Careers.

Licon spent almost six years at Goldman Sachs, after earlier roles in Mexico City and New York, and he focuses on emerging-markets macro trading. The move also reflects the ongoing transfer of experienced bank trading talent into the hedge fund sector.

Brevan Howard said the hire comes as it continues to broaden its strategy mix beyond traditional macro roots, a shift it began in 2018, while still building its emerging-markets offering. London-based partner Claire McCathie oversees the firm’s emerging-markets fund and has added other specialists, including Latin America-focused talent in recent years.
