OpenAI revenue run rate reportedly tops $40 billion ahead of listing

The company’s run rate rose more than 20% month-on-month in July, according to people familiar with the matter.

OpenAI is reportedly on track to generate an annualized revenue run rate above $40 billion, about double its run rate at the end of 2025, as the ChatGPT maker moves closer to a stock market debut, according to Bloomberg via Yahoo Finance.

Citing people familiar with the matter, Yahoo Finance said OpenAI has accelerated growth through its AI coding software, subscription sales, a growing advertising business, and a still expanding consumer arm. Greg Brockman, OpenAI co-founder and president, told staff that the run rate rose more than 20% month-on-month in July.

Yahoo Finance also reported that OpenAI’s agent demand has picked up, including Codex and ChatGPT Work. The company has cut prices on some models to compete with Anthropic and Chinese rivals, while continuing to weigh how to present comparable revenue run-rate figures against peers.

Separately, Yahoo Finance said OpenAI appointed a cybersecurity executive as chief revenue officer on Thursday, its second such executive hire in under a year, as it prepares for potential public listing steps including confidential filing paperwork.
