Novig sues Wisconsin over sports event contracts ahead of enforcement

The suit, filed in federal court by Novig subsidiary Ludlow Exchange, seeks a preliminary injunction to stop Wisconsin from forcing it to halt sports contract offerings.

Sports-focused prediction market firm Novig has filed a federal lawsuit against Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul and the state gaming administrator John Dillett, with the company saying enforcement could be imminent. The Block reports Novig filed the case Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin.

According to the filing, Novig began offering event contracts to Wisconsin customers the week before it sued. Novig is seeking expedited consideration of a preliminary injunction, arguing Wisconsin has been poised to pursue similar actions after prior lawsuits involving other prediction market platforms.

The Block notes Novig operates through Ludlow Exchange LLC, which filed a 45-page complaint. Novig also says its contracts are exclusively sports-related, unlike some platforms that offer event contracts tied to international news.

Novig has sued officials in five states since Aug. 4, and Wisconsin has not yet responded to the complaint, The Block adds. The company is also reportedly requiring users to be at least 21 years old.
