Argentina LNG seeks RIGI approval for a $51 billion export project
The application targets inclusion in Argentina’s Large Investment Incentive Regime as partners pursue a final investment decision by end-2026.
Argentina LNG, the liquefied natural gas project backed by YPF, Eni, and Abu Dhabi-based XRG, has applied to be included in Argentina’s Large Investment Incentive Regime, or RIGI, as the partners work toward a final investment decision by the end of 2026, according to Oilprice.com via Yahoo Finance.
The proposed integrated development would tie natural gas production from Argentina’s Vaca Muerta shale to processing, transportation, and LNG export infrastructure, including two floating LNG vessels offshore Río Negro province with combined liquefaction capacity of 12 million tonnes per year.
YPF said total spending over the life of the project could reach $51 billion, making it the largest project submitted under the RIGI framework to date, and the company expects the two floating LNG units to begin operations around 2031.
RIGI is designed to attract large-scale investment by offering qualifying projects long-term fiscal, customs, and foreign-exchange benefits, and YPF said securing those terms would help underpin financing for the capital-intensive project aimed largely at export markets.
