Eli Lilly expands GLP-1 pipeline with UK approval of oral Foundayo
The UK regulator approved Foundayo for weight management and type 2 diabetes, and Lilly said it expects a global rollout across major markets in 2027.
Eli Lilly said the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency approved Foundayo, its oral GLP-1, for weight management and type 2 diabetes, making the UK the first European market to greenlight the pill. The stock rose nearly 4% on the news, according to Yahoo Finance.
Foundayo arrives after Eli Lilly had already highlighted momentum across its GLP-1 portfolio, with the company positioning Foundayo for patients who prefer not to fast before dosing. Lilly said Foundayo does not require fasting for 30 minutes before taking it, unlike Novo Nordisk's oral Wegovy tablet.
Lilly added that Foundayo is under regulatory review in more than 40 additional countries, with a global rollout expected across major markets in 2027. The company also framed its growth strategy as expanding treatment options rather than relying on a single product, citing Zepbound as its injectable leader and retatrutide as a next step after positive Phase 3 results across three trials.
The article also pointed to recent financial performance, including Lilly's second quarter revenue growth of 48% year over year and adjusted EPS of $8.38. Management raised full-year revenue guidance to $85 billion to $87 billion, while noting that average realized prices across its GLP-1 portfolio fell 13% year over year due largely to continued price cuts.
