Hongkong Post ends permanent civil service contracts for new hires
The change will affect about 200 new employees, with those passing probation from September offered two-year civil service terms.
Hongkong Post, Hong Kong’s self-financing postal administration, will stop offering permanent civil service contracts to new employees as it pursues cost-saving measures amid a worsening financial outlook, according to SCMP Economy.
Postmaster General Leonia Tai Shuk-yiu said new hires who pass probation in or after September will instead receive two-year contracts on civil service terms, as the company faces a decline in mail volume.
Tai said roughly 200 employees would be affected and that whether employment is renewed after the two-year period will depend on operational needs at the time.
During the contract term, employees will be treated as civil servants and remain eligible for civil service welfare benefits, SCMP Economy reported.
