Pakistan Supreme Court orders Imran Khan to be moved to hospital

The court said the 73-year-old, jailed ex-premier will be shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within two days for medical checks.

Pakistan’s Supreme Court ordered that jailed former prime minister Imran Khan be moved to hospital for medical checks after a petition by his lawyers citing health concerns, according to SCMP Economy citing a court ruling.

Justice Shahid Waheed said the 73-year-old Khan, who has been held since 2023 on corruption charges, is to be transferred within the next two days to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad. SCMP Economy reported that there was no immediate information provided on the specific details of the medical concerns raised in the petition.

SCMP Economy said Khan and his wife, spiritual guide Bushra Bibi, were sentenced in late 2025 to 17 years behind bars. The outlet also noted Khan received eye treatment earlier this year, with his family and lawyer saying he had lost most of the vision in his right eye.

Outside court, Khan’s PTI secretary general Salman Akram Raja, per SCMP Economy, told media in a video shared on Facebook that the ruling was a major step and decision. The report did not provide further medical details beyond the order to conduct checks.
