US stock futures slip as long-end yields surge and US-Iran tensions rise
The 10-year Treasury yield is near 4.75%, while the 30-year is above 5.33%, and investors are looking ahead to retail earnings from Home Depot, Lowe's, and Walmart.
FXStreet reports that US stock futures fell in Tuesday European hours, with Dow Jones futures down 0.25% to around 53,410, S&P 500 futures off 0.52% near 7,730, and Nasdaq 100 futures down 0.92% to roughly 29,820.
The decline was driven by a surge in long-term bond yields, as the 10-year Treasury yield climbed toward 4.75%, nearing its highest level since January 2025, and the 30-year yield rose above 5.33% to its highest level since 2007.
According to FXStreet, analysts at Rabobank said the latest rise in long-end yields is occurring when many economies already carry high public debt, citing US 30-year yields at 5.31%, the highest since July 2007, and similar long-end moves abroad.
FXStreet also linked market stress to escalating Middle East tensions and higher oil prices as hopes for a new US-Iran peace agreement fade, noting that investors are turning to upcoming retail earnings from Home Depot, Lowe's, and Walmart later this week to assess consumer spending.
