Tech sector gains early as AI-driven chip stocks offset lagging megacaps
Early trading was split, with the Nasdaq wobbling as five of the Magnificent Seven names traded lower despite strength in semiconductors.
U.S. stocks showed a choppy start to trading, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 slipping while the Nasdaq Composite wavered, according to Yahoo Finance.
Technology was one of the few sectors in positive territory at the open, supported by a large revenue haul by AI startup Anthropic that helped bolster semiconductor stocks.
Even so, tech's early edge appeared fragile, with five of the Magnificent Seven stocks trading in the red. Other sectors were broadly lower, including Consumer Discretionary, Communication Services, and Basic Materials.
Yahoo Finance also highlighted several actively viewed stocks at the start of the session, including Micron, Sandisk, Intel, SK Hynix, Meta, Bloom Energy, and Seagate Technology.
