Ukraine anti-corruption agencies probe senior officials in Zelensky office
The investigation follows a call from Ukraine’s recently fired defense minister for national elections as the war enters its fifth year.
Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies said they are investigating senior officials in President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, according to SCMP Economy, a day after the country’s recently fired defense minister called for national elections despite Russia’s invasion continuing.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office said investigators are running an operation targeting a criminal network they allege involves current and former lawmakers and includes officials from the presidential office and other individuals.
SCMP Economy reports the development adds pressure on Zelensky’s government amid an ongoing fight against corruption, which has already forced leadership changes, including the resignation of his chief of staff Andriy Yermak last year, later named as a suspect in a corruption case tied to a luxury construction project.
