US Treasury yields fall after debt repurchases announced

The Treasury said it will at least double its maximum debt buyback size from $2 billion to at least $4 billion across the 10- to 20-year and 20- to 30-year parts of the market.

US government bond yields fell sharply after Treasury secretary Scott Bessent stepped in to ease market pressure, the Guardian Business said. The outlet reported that yields had recently surged to levels not seen in nearly two decades.

According to the Treasury department, it will more than double the maximum size of its government debt repurchases, increasing the cap on buyback operations from $2 billion to at least $4 billion.

The Treasury said it plans to buy additional debt in the 10- to 20-year and 20- to 30-year segments, a move described as bringing some relief after a bond market rout.
