Treasury buybacks of longer-dated Treasurys could expand under Bessent
Bessent said the Treasury could at least double its buybacks of longer-dated bonds as part of a broader “tool kit” to support the market.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated the Treasury could step in again in the bond market, pointing to what he described as a broader “tool kit,” according to MarketWatch.
Bessent’s comments this week included a plan to at least double the department’s buybacks of longer-dated Treasury bonds, signaling a potentially larger scale of intervention in the longer end of the curve.
MarketWatch said the proposal would expand the Treasury’s purchases beyond current activity, framing the move as a response option for market conditions.
