Airbus scales back remote-work limits after strikes and protests
Airbus is allowing staff to work from home about two days per week on average, after plans were set to tighten starting in September.
Airbus has moved to ease remote-work restrictions following a wave of worker actions tied to its return to the office push, according to coverage by Reuters and Bloomberg.
The aircraft maker is reportedly watering down plans that would have limited work from home to one day per week from September. Under the updated approach, managers have been told staff can work remotely an average of two days a week, effectively curbing CEO Guillaume Faury’s earlier effort to increase on site time.
The dispute follows strikes and protests in multiple countries. In Spain, staff have been striking since July, with around 40% of the company’s 14,000 local workers taking part in stoppages in recent weeks over issues that included remote working, transport, paid leave and salaries.
Airbus has also faced sporadic protests in France and the UK related to efforts to require white collar employees in the office four days a week. Reuters said Airbus production has not been affected, and an Airbus spokesperson said the company wants increased on site presence but will implement the transition more gradually after employee feedback.
