Electric landscaping tools face a slower-than-expected switch
Noise limits and air-quality concerns are pushing cities across the US to restrict petrol landscaping tools or encourage electric alternatives, and the equipment shift also aims to cut carbon emissions and reduce vibrations and landscapers' exposure to pollution, according to BBC Business.
Training and new entrants are part of that transition. BBC Business reports that it joined a session run by the American Green Zone Alliance, where participants tried an electric backpack leaf blower that the outlet says felt similar in weight to a normal rucksack.
The outlet also highlights US aerospace startup Whisper Aero, whose electric propulsion technology is being adapted for leaf blowers. BBC Business says Whisper Aero started online pre-orders for a handheld electric leaf blower this year, positioning it as quieter and more efficient than other air-moving options.
While electric gear is gaining traction, BBC Business notes that petrol tools are unlikely to disappear soon, especially for professional landscapers, because petrol machines remain more powerful.
