Moderna shares surge after Phase 3 melanoma vaccine data
Moderna said its investigational intismeran autogene plus Merck’s Keytruda improved recurrence-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival versus Keytruda alone in a Phase 3 study of 1,137 high-risk melanoma patients.
Moderna shares surged more than 100% on Wednesday after the company reported late-stage results for an mRNA-based cancer vaccine in a Phase 3 study, according to Yahoo Finance.
Moderna said intismeran autogene, developed with Merck, met endpoints in the INTerpath-001 trial involving 1,137 high-risk melanoma patients, with the combination therapy plus Keytruda showing statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements in both recurrence-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival compared with Keytruda alone.
The company said the results represent the first successful Phase 3 readout for its individualized mRNA neoantigen therapy, and Moderna’s CEO Stéphane Bancel indicated regulatory submissions will be prioritized, with potential commercial approval as early as 2027.
Yahoo Finance also noted that the stock’s run pushed it above key moving averages, with the RSI nearing 90, reflecting heavy buying pressure following the Aug. 19 disclosure.
