MiniMed Flex begins U.S. commercial shipping with Abbott Instinct sensor

The integration pairs MiniMed’s app controlled automated insulin delivery system with Abbott’s 15 day sensor and targets real world outcomes such as 80% time in range and over 90% overnight.

MiniMed Group said its MiniMed Flex system has started commercially shipping in the United States, now integrated with Abbott Laboratories' Instinct continuous glucose sensor, according to Yahoo Finance. The release, announced August 17, links MiniMed’s smallest, only app controlled automated insulin delivery system with Abbott’s world's smallest 15 day sensor.

The setup uses MiniMed’s SmartGuard technology and Meal Detection automation, and it holds 300 units of insulin. Yahoo Finance also notes the system connects to a 7 day Extended infusion set, and cites real world data outcomes including 80% time in range and more than 90% overnight.

Yahoo Finance contrasts the companies’ financial profiles: Abbott is a mega cap healthcare company that, in its Q2 2026 results, reported $12.6 billion in quarterly revenue, $1.31 in adjusted EPS, and reaffirmed a 6.5% to 7.5% organic sales target while raising full year EPS guidance to $5.45 to $5.60.

By comparison, MiniMed is described as a diabetes technology pure play with a market capitalization of about $5.67 billion. Yahoo Finance says MiniMed is scheduled to report fiscal Q1 2027 results on September 1, 2026, and highlights that the bull case centers on market share gains tied to the MiniMed Flex launch, while the bear case focuses on execution risk and competition from larger medtech rivals.
