NHTSA opens probe into nearly 1 million GM pickups and SUVs for engine failures
The agency received 499 complaints about engine failures even after an earlier recall remedy, and it said an engineering analysis will assess how effective GM's fix is.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a probe into 997,743 General Motors pickup trucks and SUVs over concerns related to engine failure, Reuters reported. The vehicles include the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and GMC Yukon, covering model years 2021 to 2026.
NHTSA said the affected vehicles are equipped with GM's L87 engines and that it has received 499 complaints alleging engine failures despite the vehicles having undergone an earlier recall remedy. Reuters noted GM previously issued a recall last year to address engine failure concerns tied to the L87 unit.
The auto safety regulator said its investigation will continue using new engineering analysis to look at post-recall engine failures and evaluate the effectiveness of GM's fixes, according to Reuters. GM attributed the issue to a supplier, Reuters added.
