Samsung Electronics targets shareholder returns up to $79.5 billion
The plan includes 30 trillion won in cash dividends in the third quarter and 15 trillion won in share buybacks for employee stock bonuses.
Samsung Electronics expects shareholder returns for this year could reach up to 110 trillion won, or $79.5 billion, including 30 trillion won in cash dividends in the third quarter, the company said Friday, according to Reuters. The targeted total would be more than five times the previous high of 20.3 trillion won in shareholder returns set in 2020. Samsung said it has also bought back shares worth 15 trillion won for employee stock bonuses. Samsung will have its board decide on remaining payouts in January 2027, considering cash dividends, share buybacks, and share cancellations. Under its 2024 to 2026 shareholder return policy, the company is committing 50% of free cash flow accumulated over the three-year period to shareholders. Shares in Samsung gained 3.5% on Friday, while SK Hynix rose 4.4%. Reuters also noted that Samsung has faced shareholder pressure to return some of the gains from record chip profits as AI demand boosts the sector, and that Samsung reported a more than 250-fold jump in chip profit to 89 trillion won in the second quarter.
