Walmart points to fast delivery as Q2 e-commerce grows 24% in the US
Walmart said expedited deliveries under three hours were 37% of store-fulfilled orders, and 70% of online orders are delivered the same day.
Walmart reported 5.9% revenue growth in the second quarter, attributing momentum in part to its e-commerce push and faster delivery options, according to Yahoo Finance. The company also pointed to local store fulfillment and digital tools that help expand quick commerce across a broader range of goods.
Walmart said US e-commerce sales increased 24% year over year, with store-fulfilled deliveries up 43% alongside more than 50% growth in marketplace net sales. The company noted this marked the 10th consecutive quarter of US e-commerce growth above 20%.
The retailer said expedited delivery, defined as under three hours, made up 37% of store-fulfilled orders, and 70% of online orders are delivered the same day. It also said e-commerce now accounts for more than 23% of Walmart U.S.'s revenue mix, double the level from five years ago.
Despite the e-commerce gains, Walmart said US comparable sales growth slowed to 2.6% from 4.6% a year earlier, and its sales guidance was lower than the second half of the prior fiscal year. Walmart International e-commerce sales rose 19%, with the international unit seeing e-commerce representing 30% of sales, the outlet reported.
