Luxury car CEOs describe a K-shaped collector demand split
Hagerty’s CEO said the rise in $100 million car collections is happening in months rather than decades, while Bentley sees slower orders from more regular buyers.
Luxury and collector-car executives told Yahoo Finance that the market is splitting in a K-shaped pattern, with the very top still accelerating while demand softens lower down.
Hagerty CEO McKeel Hagerty said the surge in high-end buying reflects a liquidity event, and he noted that collections worth more than $100 million are being built in months instead of decades.
Bentley CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser said the top end remains strong and is driven by proper demand from good customers, but that more regular buyers are hesitating, with slower business showing up in order books.
Aston Martin CEO Adrian Hallmark added that the biggest concern is in the middle tier, arguing that both the top and bottom are comparatively insulated from economic noise, while the middle group is more susceptible to uncertainty.
