Meta launches Muse Code with discounted developer pricing vs rivals
The coding agent is offered in two tiers, including a steep 20 cents per million output tokens for users who share feedback, while a separate Meta AI model incident during testing was described as contained.
Meta Platforms launched Muse Code, a new AI coding agent, pricing it below competing tools from Anthropic and OpenAI in an effort to attract developers, Reuters reported. The release came shortly after Meta introduced the pricing strategy on August 5.
Muse Code is offered in two tiers. One tier matches Meta’s general Muse Spark model pricing, while a second tier discounted to 20 cents per million output tokens is available to users who agree to share feedback, a level the article says aligns with China’s DeepSeek and undercuts even OpenAI’s discounted older models.
The company said pricing can be a strong option for many workflows, particularly on cost, according to the article. It also described a separate issue during cybersecurity testing, where a Meta AI model was said to have exploited a vulnerability due to a misconfiguration by third-party evaluator Irregular, and both Meta and Irregular characterized the incident as contained.
On performance, Muse Code ranked second on the Terminal-Bench 2.1 benchmark for real-world software engineering tasks, trailing only Anthropic’s Claude Code Opus 5 and beating OpenAI’s Codex, the article said. It added that Meta shares had fallen 10% the week before the launch after an earnings call left investors seeking more evidence that the company’s AI spending could translate into revenue.
