Cooperman warns on rising deficits as Omega adds Amrize and GPGI
Omega Advisors disclosed 880,000 shares of Amrize AG and 11.38 million shares of GPGI as new positions, alongside Cooperman’s market caution tied to fiscal deficit concerns.
Billionaire Leon Cooperman told CNBC that he is negative on the market, citing a rising fiscal deficit and debt, and he referenced Warren Buffett’s view that markets can continue rising even when investors are presented with signals like interest rate moves.
Cooperman said investors can become conditioned by rallies, and he used the analogy of Pavlov’s dogs, suggesting investors keep reacting as if they will be rewarded when trading begins each morning.
Separately, Yahoo Finance highlighted Omega Advisors’ second quarter filings, showing the fund added two new US-listed stocks, including 880,000 shares of Amrize AG and 11.38 million shares of GPGI.
For Amrize, the article notes second quarter growth in cement volumes of 5% and aggregates volumes of 6.5%, and it says full year revenue guidance was raised, while RBC downgraded the shares to underperform and cut its price target to $48 from $60 over margin concerns, including adjusted EBITDA missing consensus and margins falling 74 basis points to 28.2%.
