Berkshire trims some holdings, boosts Alphabet stake 83% in Q2

Berkshire added about 48 million Alphabet shares in Q2, lifting the stake to roughly 12.6% of its portfolio valued at $37.8 billion.

Berkshire Hathaway’s latest portfolio update shows a major increase in its position in Alphabet during the second quarter, according to MarketBeat Ratings. The filing indicates Berkshire raised its Alphabet stake by 83% over the quarter, bringing its holdings to about 106 million shares when combining Alphabet’s Class A and Class C stock.

As of the end of Q2, the Alphabet position was valued at $37.8 billion, making it Berkshire’s third-largest holding at 12.6% of the portfolio. MarketBeat Ratings notes that this is a step up from Q1, when Alphabet ranked as the seventh-largest holding.

The update also reflects changes elsewhere in Berkshire’s portfolio, including additions to new or existing areas and reductions in other positions. MarketBeat Ratings says Berkshire added to Lennar and cut Capital One, Nucor, Kroger, and Constellation Brands in Q2.

MarketBeat Ratings points to Alphabet’s cloud business as a key part of its investment case, citing that Google Cloud revenue grew 82% year over year last quarter, driven by demand for AI infrastructure and AI solutions. The outlet adds that this growth outpaced Microsoft’s Azure, which grew 43% year over year, and Amazon’s AWS, which grew 36.7% year over year.
