Top 2026 S&P 500 winners lose ground as rotation shifts sectors

The best-performing 10% of the S&P 500 fell about 1.6% by midday Monday, while the very top group slid around 2.7% on average and Sandisk dropped more than 7%.

Wall Street started the week by pulling back from some of 2026's strongest stock leaders, with the best-performing 10% of S&P 500 names down about 1.6% on average by midday Monday, according to calculations cited by Yahoo Finance.

At the top end, 19 of the 20 biggest winners of 2026 were lower, slipping about 2.7% on average. Sandisk (SNDK) was down more than 7%, while Micron (MU) and Western Digital (WDC) both declined more than 5% after entering Monday with triple digit gains for the year.

The weakness has spread across parts of the market that had led earlier in the rally, particularly semiconductors. Yahoo Finance reported the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) fell to a three-week low before finding buyers around the $500 level after a sharp selloff off technical resistance.

Fundstrat head of technical strategy Mark Newton said the move reflects rotation, with leadership moving through energy and technology before shifting to financials, industrials, and healthcare. Even with the selloff in recent leaders, about 56% of S&P 500 stocks were higher on Monday morning, while the index itself dipped, indicating broader breadth remained intact.
