Balyasny grows London team for portfolio manager support

The hedge fund has hired more than 100 people in London over the past year, including roughly 14 new portfolio managers.

Balyasny Asset Management is expanding its London operation, adding specialist roles aimed at integrating and supporting portfolio managers as the firm recruits across commodities, quantitative strategies and other areas, according to Hedgeweek citing data from eFinancial Careers.

Hedgeweek reports that the firm has brought in more than 100 people in London over the past year, with hiring concentrated in commodities and quantitative roles. It also said about 14 new portfolio managers joined during the same period.

Among the latest appointments is Alexandra Theis, named head of portfolio manager integration and relationship management for EMEA, working alongside Jessica McMullen, who joined in June in a comparable role. Hedgeweek added that the firm did not comment on the responsibilities of either executive.

The outlet said the creation of dedicated portfolio manager integration positions reflects the operational demands of Balyasny’s multi-manager model, in which investment teams operate within a broader centralised platform. Hedgeweek also noted that McMullen previously worked at Citi in prime finance and Theis previously held a director role at BNP Paribas in prime brokerage sales.
