Kevin O'Leary touts Walmart bargain hunting as grocery costs rise

U.S. consumer prices are up 3.4% over the past 12 months, while food prices increased 3.0% and energy jumped 14.7%, according to the July CPI.

Kevin O'Leary, estimated to be worth about $400 million, recently shared that inflation is affecting consumers as he compared prices in a Walmart aisle, focusing on getting better value on household essentials.

In the footage, the Shark Tank personality discussed checking pack sizes for items such as paper towels, and linked his shopping approach to a goal of saving money during higher everyday costs.

O'Leary’s comments were backed with U.S. inflation data cited alongside the post. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics July Consumer Price Index, overall consumer prices rose 3.4% over the past 12 months, with food up 3.0% and energy up 14.7%.

The story also pointed to grocery and household costs rising faster than average, saying a basket of 24 common grocery and household items, including paper products, cost 5.9% more in January 2026 than a year earlier. It estimated that a household spending $1,000 a month on groceries and essentials would pay about $59 more per month, or more than $700 per year, before energy costs.
