Malibu Boats reports higher Q4 gross margin amid wholesale inventory focus
Gross margin rose 190 basis points to 17.7% in the quarter, while full-year gross margin fell 180 basis points to 16% as the company worked to reduce dealer inventory.
Malibu Boats, Inc. reported that Q4 gross margin expanded 190 basis points to 17.7%, driven by a higher mix of models with gross margins above the prior mix, according to a Yahoo Finance earnings call summary. For the full year, however, gross margin declined 180 basis points to 16%. The company said its MBI Advantage operating framework emphasized operational excellence, centralized sourcing, and disciplined channel management, with wholesale discipline aimed at reducing dealer inventories and improving the aged inventory profile going into fiscal 2027. Malibu Boats also pointed to offsetting segment performance, with unit volume growth in its Cobalt and Saltwater Fishing segments helping counter pressures in legacy areas. Management said it pursued growth through pace of new model introductions, adding 11 new models in fiscal 2026. On strategy and demand, the company said its acquisition of Saxdor Yachts marked a pivot into the high-growth adventure day boat segment, targeting a younger, affluent buyer profile. It also launched MBI Acceptance to support payment-sensitive buyers, and it forecast fiscal 2027 guidance assuming a flat to down broader market, with a softer first half and stabilization in the second half, while Saxdor revenue is projected to grow in the low teens.
