SpaceX plans $100 billion Starbase Louisiana launch site
Construction is set to start in 2027, with an initial Starship launch targeted for 2029, and the project is expected to create at least 3,000 jobs.
SpaceX plans to spend $100 billion to build a new rocket launch site in southern Louisiana near Pecan Island, a project the company says will scale up Starship launches to thousands per year.
According to Yahoo Finance, SpaceX expects the facility, called Starbase Louisiana, to support more than 30 launches a day once completed, with 10 launch pads across five complexes. The site is designed to include its own fuel production, power generation, a deep-water port, and an airport to operate independently.
SpaceX says construction is set to begin in 2027, with the first launch targeted for as soon as 2029, and the company expects the project to be an inflection point for the state that creates at least 3,000 jobs, based on what Louisiana’s governor said.
The new launch network is intended to support SpaceX’s broader plans for large-scale satellite deployment and expanded operations in orbit, while the company also continues developing Starship, which it says has already required more than $8 billion in development spending. Yahoo Finance notes the key issue is whether Starship can deliver the reliability and rapid reuse needed for that launch pace.
