Advisors boosted ETF holdings in Q2 2026, adding nearly 25,000 positions

Advisor ETF holdings rose to an average 92.9 funds per firm by end of June, and net gains totaled nearly 25,000 ETF positions across 5,398 RIAs.

Advisors expanded their exchange-traded fund exposure in the second quarter of 2026, according to AdvizorPro’s Q2 2026 RIA ETF Trends report cited by ETF Trends. The average registered investment advisor firm held 92.9 ETFs by the end of June, up from 88.4 in the first quarter.

The report found that 63.4% of advisors added ETF funds during the quarter, compared with 18.2% who trimmed. Turnover held around 11.6% for the quarter, slightly below 12.3% in the prior quarter, while advisors added ETF positions equal to 13.9% of prior holdings and dropped 8.7%.

Those flows translated into a net gain of nearly 25,000 ETF positions across 5,398 RIAs tracked in both quarters. ETF Trends also said the largest ETF issuers broadly gained advisor relationships, with iShares still leading at 4,991 RIA relationships, followed by State Street Investment Management at 4,737 and Vanguard at 4,599.

Within those totals, the report said advisors shifted their selections sharply. Technology added 230 net RIA relationships, the commodities-focused category lost 103, and digital assets fell 86, while iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) led with 206 added relationships, followed by VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) with 205 and State Street’s XLK with 194.
