AI spending forecasts could top rail and internet buildout costs

MarketWatch notes the accounting giant links AI spending growth and scale to higher projected capex than past infrastructure and network buildouts.

MarketWatch reports that an accounting firm estimates artificial intelligence buildouts will require more capital expenditure than the costs associated with building railways in both the United States and the United Kingdom, with internet buildout costs added on top.

The outlet says the firm argues AI development is different from earlier infrastructure and technology rollouts because of its scale and the pace of spending growth.

According to MarketWatch, the comparison is aimed at highlighting how AI capex trajectories could exceed those of large, multi-decade projects like rail and early internet expansion.
