Bank of Canada weighs tariff shock as it holds interest rates
CNBC Markets reports the Bank of Canada considered how a U.S. Canada trade dispute and escalating retaliatory tariffs could affect the Canadian economy as it made its Wednesday policy decision.
The outlet said the tariff escalation complicated the bank’s outlook as it chose to hold interest rates.
With the dispute moving into a retaliatory phase, the Bank of Canada had to account for potential economic impacts alongside its existing policy framework, CNBC Markets added.
